The Airport is Today’s Bus Terminal
Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009After we concluded our programme coordination meeting in Medan, my colleagues and I headed out to the airport. The Polonia airport in Medan has a new departure hall, which they have built after the fire in December 2007. This is how it looks like.
It was not as dark as the old one, for sure in that sense it is much nicer. However, the ceiling was so high that any sound echoes, which makes it difficult to listen and to actually understand the boarding, departure, delay and any other announcements. With the very many people in the waiting hall, it almost feels like a bus terminal.
There is no shop whatsoever, nor is there any restaurants, so basically we can’t buy any souvenir (which is actually a good thing
) but worse, we can’t sit and have any coffee or snack while waiting for the time to board the flight. I hope they will soon realize it and improve. Usually it wouldn’t bother me because I would always have something to read, but this time I finished my book on my way to Medan already, so I had nothing to do but wait. And that wasn’t really my favourite thing to do.
