I was browsing through my photo collection and found a lot of pictures of food that I took over the years, even before I had started this food blog. So I am going to post them one by one while trying to remember the occasion.
Let me start with this picture here. It was 14 December 2007, and my hubby and I were having dinner with two of his colleagues, basically to bid farewell to one of them and thank her for a job well done in a project which had just ended.
We had our dinner at Stix restaurant and bar at Park Lane hotel. If I remember correctly, we all ordered steak, since that was really what they claimed to be best at.
Anyway, after a chit chat, our food arrived. As usual, one of the waiters offered us whether we would like to have additional fresh ground black pepper. Some of us took that offer, and then he came with a giant pepper grinder! It was so hilarious to see how this not-so-tall waiter (in general, in case you haven’t noticed, Indonesians are not so tall. Their average height is 165 cm) trying to balance this huge pepper grinder on top of our colleague’s plate. But hey it’s the thought that counts, right?
I am not sure if they still have that giant pepper grinder, but if you want to check it out yourself, here is the address:
Stix restaurant and bar
Park Lane hotel, lower ground
Jalan Casablanca Kav. 18,
Jakarta 12870,
Indonesia
I must warn you though. If you are an Indonesian woman, come with your women and men friends. The atmosphere in this bar is slightly ‘meat-market’-ish so if you come alone (or only with a girlfriend) the men expatriates may start to approach you and start bidding. Nah, it’s not really that bad especially before 10 pm, but just beware.
The food itself is actually not bad, especially the steak. I would go for the mushroom or garlic sauce if you pick the steak, and definitely go for the mashed potatoes as they’re really good! The béarnaise sauce is not as delicious as my own home-made one, so stay clear of that unless you are ok with less than the best.
