The Hands that Hold the Chicken Burger

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

When I made those chicken rissoles patties the other day, served with mushroom sauce, there were two patties leftover which I decided to ‘recycle’ and serve as chicken burger. I was browsing for ideas on what to put in the burger aside to the patty itself, and stumbled upon this picture of a ‘chicken burger’.

What drew my attention to this picture was not the cute little chick (which according to this post has grown into a rooster) being put between burger buns, making it a ‘chicken burger’. It was the hands holding that chicken burger. Why the hands, you ask? Well, I really truly believe that they could easily be mine!! They look so much like mine – the shape, the thumb, and little details (except maybe the skin color: I am Asian and this one – based on the website this picture came from – seems to be a Dane). But other than that, I strongly believe I found my ‘hands-twin’.

Dinner Tonight: Chicken Rissoles with Mushroom Sauce

Today, I am all fired up to cook. As per the one week menu I previously planned (yes, very ‘Monica’), tonight’s dinner is chicken rissoles with mushroom sauce.

Again, it’s taken from my favourite easy to make recipe book from Periplus. The patty is made of minced chicken, breadcrumbs, dried tarragon, chopped onions and of course salt and pepper. The original recipe called for mayonnaise but I opted out because the mix was a little too soft already.

The sauce is made of chopped spring onions,  stir fried with sliced mushroom and cream. Additionally, the sauce requires a quarter cup of white wine. I prepared the patties ahead of time and put it aside, so I only had to reheat it and make the sauce when dinner time came. The taste? Aside to needing more salt in the patties, the taste overall was great and I will definitely make this again.

Dining Out: Gourmet Garage

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Tonight I was originally going to meet up with a friend of mine to collect a cd of my gg2pictures, but it turned out that she could not make it so we rescheduled our meeting. My hubby was originally supposed to go shopping to Gourmet Garage in Kemang to prepare dinner tomorrow for our guests from Denmark. But since my appointment was cancelled, I ended up going with him and we ended up going to Gourmet Garage together.

Gourmet Garage is a new supermarket specializing in imported food items, and it’s the only place in Jakarta (so far that we found) which sells really good steak meat, including the expensive and tender Wagyu beef. It also has a restaurant upstairs, which has three different menus: Japanese food, western food, and deserts. Since we didn’t have any dinner planned we thought we might as well eat there.

Image037My hubby ordered a crispy chicken burger while I went for the chicken mushroom pie (since I already had a big lunch). My pie was nice although a little bit too dry and there was just too much crust compared to the filling. The chicken burger was as promised: crispy. It was served with some salad and french fries. I particularly like their fries, because it is seasoned with some spices. The chicken burger although nice and crispy was just ok, nothing special. After all it’s fried chicken between two burger buns, what else do you expect other than the usual burger taste? I thought KFC’s chicken burger tastes good too, and this was just the gourmet version – which makes it taste slightly better and much more expensive :P

Here is my hubby, waiting for me to finish my new routine: take picture first, eat later – which is a routine we both are still getting used to. :D
