Mini Burgers at Gourmet Garage

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Here is another picture of food that I took over the years without ever writing about it. It was 10 July 2008, and my then-partner-now-hubby and I went to Gourmet Garage for dinner. I don’t remember what I ordered but my hubby ordered mini burgers and they were just so adorable, I had to take a picture of it.

See how small they are? Yes, “they” because apparently they are so small that if you order this menu you will get two of them. Since they use prime wagyu beef, the burger was very juicy and tender, and I especially love their fried potatoes because they are spiced up. Unfortunately they don’t serve these mini burgers anymore.

Dinner Tonight (and Yesterday): Two Versions of Hakkebøf

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

My hubby arrived back last Friday and I had planned to make him a cheeseburger. Unfortunately I came home a little too late from the office so we called Izzi Pizza instead because we didn’t want to bother with the preparation and all that.

Yesterday when I wanted to make cheeseburger, I realized that I forgot to buy the burger bun. Doh! So my hubby and I decided to make burger steak instead. I thought this wasn’t such a bad back up plan. Since we had plenty of minced meat, we had enough burger steak for today as well, but we served them differently. Here’s how.

The photo on the left is how we served it on Saturday: with boiled potatoes, grilled tomatoes, caramelized onion and brown sauce. The brown sauce is nothing fancy, just cream stirred into the pan which was used to fry the steak and onion, and then we added a bit of brown food colour to make it less pale. Looks quiet and pretty plain eh. But I tell you, it tasted damn good.

The Sunday version was served with roast potatoes, sunny side up egg and béarnaise sauce. For a recipe of béarnaise sauce, click here. Which one looks to be to your liking? If you ask me, I liked them both. :D

The Cheeseburger from Amigos

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Image078Well, apparently it doesn’t really take much time to find an excuse to call in the guys from Amigos to deliver their cheeseburger. We like it obviously because it tastes good, the burger patties are very juicy so it’s not as dry as any regular burger from other places (well except Burger King) :P

Usually they serve it with garden salad and slices of water melon but they haven’t done so in a long time. Now they serve it with onion rings and coleslaw. We skipped the coleslaw but I enjoyed the onion rings.

Dinner Tonight: Chicken Burger

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Other than the picture of a cute little chick in between burger buns held by my hands-twin, I didn’t really find any interesting hints on what to put on a chicken burger. So we used the really basic ingredients: mayo, tomato sauce, mustard, tomato slices, cucumber slices, lettuce and cheddar cheese. We used ready made burger buns that was available in the supermarket. The buns were sooo thick that we decided to slice out the middle part and not use it.

When we started to eat, we realized we forgot rings of onions. But never mind, it tasted delicious anyway! :D And this must be the best looking picture of food I have ever taken so far for my blog. :P

The Hands that Hold the Chicken Burger

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

When I made those chicken rissoles patties the other day, served with mushroom sauce, there were two patties leftover which I decided to ‘recycle’ and serve as chicken burger. I was browsing for ideas on what to put in the burger aside to the patty itself, and stumbled upon this picture of a ‘chicken burger’.

What drew my attention to this picture was not the cute little chick (which according to this post has grown into a rooster) being put between burger buns, making it a ‘chicken burger’. It was the hands holding that chicken burger. Why the hands, you ask? Well, I really truly believe that they could easily be mine!! They look so much like mine – the shape, the thumb, and little details (except maybe the skin color: I am Asian and this one – based on the website this picture came from – seems to be a Dane). But other than that, I strongly believe I found my ‘hands-twin’.
