Grilled Ribs at Mamink Daeng Tata, Pejaten

When I still worked with the Red Cross, a colleague of mine introduced me to a small restaurant in Tebet, Mamink Daeng Tata, which sells food from Makassar (South Sulawesi) such as Konro Bakar (grilled ribs), Sop Konro (beef ribs soup), and Coto Makassar (beef soup). I really like the food and I still keep going there once in a while with friends. Later on, when I was driving around in Pejaten, I discovered that this restaurant that I usually go to in Tebet has opened a branch in Pejaten Raya street.

So one day, when my sister’s friend came from Costa Rica to live here, we decided to treat him to some good (but cheap) Indonesian food, and brought him to this restaurant in Pejaten. The place is a little bit smaller than the one in Tebet, but it was ok, clean and bright. We ordered the grilled ribs and the soup as well. He was quite impressed with the large chunk of meat on the ribs and he liked the taste very much. For me, I thought it was pretty good although I must say that the taste in Tebet seems to be better. I don’t know why it differs, I would assume they use the same recipe. But maybe not. However, I did enjoy it – well, it’s food, what’s not to enjoy? :D

What I love about the soup is that it has a tangy taste yet very rich in flavour. The grilled ribs are also very delicious, it’s slightly sweet and the meat is tender. I would give this place a second chance, because it’s closer to my home, although I wouldn’t think twice to say yes if someone offered to take me out to the original restaurant in Tebet. Any takers? :P
