(Giant) Dinner at Hodde Kro
We were back home in Varde, Denmark and one day we decided to have one of those traditional meal experience from the good old days – or so my hubby calls it. So we took out his son and the son’s girlfriend out for dinner at Hodde Kro. A ‘kro’ is an old style restaurant serving traditional food where they also usually have rooms for rent (like an inn).
We have been here before so I was ready for the huge portion of the dish. They serve elephant ears sized Schnitzels, and although it’s a bit of an overstatement, it’s giving you the appropriate feel of how big it’s going to be: more than you a small person like me can handle. So I tried to stay clear from the steak menus and ordered pan fried turkey breast with paprika sauce and vegetables. Of course, I should have known better. Just because it wasn’t really steak, it didn’t mean that the portion would be smaller.
Surely enough, the portion was huge! I actually took a before and after picture of my plate and there was really not much difference.
It was however delicious and I couldn’t help myself but overeat a little bit. The paprika sauce went really well with the turkey. I basically skipped the french fries and vegetables to zoom in on the most important part.
It was a different case with the others though. My hubby and his son had a starter: tartelet (pastry shell) with chicken and asparagus in cream. Everyone else ordered hakkebøf with béarnaise sauce as main course, and then my hubby ordered pancake with home-made ice cream for his dessert, which we all helped finish, and on top of that he also ordered an Irish coffee to wash everything down. I think the total two kilograms that I gained during my holidays in Denmark came from this dinner alone.

Dear wifey,
Ohhh wasn’t that a grand dinner, I am actually getting a sort of painful flashbacks – painful only because I over ate slightly. Guess I should have skipped one or two (small) french fries.
luckily, because the size of the picture, it doesnt look ‘giant’… but definitely looks delicious….
