Beef Patties with Tomato Spice Butter
It’s high time to share another recipe that I have tried out. One of my favourite recipe collection is the Periplus Mini Cookbooks series. This one is taken from the Tasty Mince Recipes. It looked like it was easy to make, and I have always liked making food from minced meat, because it can be turned into so many different dishes. So here is the recipe:
For the beef patties:
- 500 gr minced beef
- 1 cup of cooked rice
- 2 tsp of curry powder
- 2 tbsp oil
For the tomato spice butter:
- 1 tbsp oil, extra
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 2 tsp ground coriander
- 2 tsp French mustard
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 440 gr canned tomatoes
- 1/2 cup water
- 60 gr butter
And here is how to make it. Combine the minced meat in a large mixing bowl with the rest of the ingredients for the patties. Roll the mixtures into eight equal patties, or as big or small as you like. I made them into four patties.
Fry the patties with medium heat until done as you prefer.
For the spice butter, heat 1 tbsp oil in the pan and stir-fry the onion, garlic and ginger until the onion is soft. Add all other ingredients except the butter, bring to boil and then cover and simmer for about 10 minutes or until the sauce has thickened. Remove from heat, pour into a blender or food processor bowl and blend until smooth. Add the butter, blend until it’s combined and pour over the patties to be served. Voila! Dinner is ready. I served it with rice, although it felt a bit weird that there was already some rice in the patties themselves.
The patties were actually pretty ok, they tasted good although it didn’t differ much from the usual burger bun we make (except for the slight curry taste and rice). Next time I would just omit the rice and curry – but of course that would really make it just a burger bun
The tomato sauce was also ok, it was just like normal Italian tomato sauce. I guess it’s just the odd mixture that deserves credit.
