A Walk in the (Swedish) Park

During our super fast visit to Denmark to attend a training, we took the opportunity to visit my hubby’s daughter on the weekend after the training concluded. She lives in Sweden, just across the bridge from Copenhagen, in a locality named Kyrkheddinge situated in the municipality of Staffanstorp, Skåne county. We spent two nights there before we had to fly back home to Jakarta.

While we were there, we went to a nearby park, Skryllegården to take a long walk. It was still decked in snow and it was so pretty. We had quite a long walk through the forest, although we took the short route. I really enjoyed it, feeling my butt frozen off but at the same time feeling the sun shine in my face. After the walk, we returned to the parking lot but when we passed a small restaurant we could not deny our cravings for some small bites and a hot chocolate.

Similar to Denmark, Sweden’s food culture includes open sandwiches, which they call ‘smörgås’ while the Danes call it ‘smørrebrød’. Whatever they call it, the bottom line is that it’s an open faced sandwich. I had the smoked turkey sandwich while the others had the shrimp sandwich, and we all had a glass of hot chocolate. It was a delicious way to end a walk in the park. :D

Remember the frozen thing. However, Danish smørrebrød puts itself apart from the rest by being extravagantly loaded unless you go for what the danes call “håndmadder”. Håndmadder better reflect the somewhat modest Swedish smörgås :-) It was still very nice

Ok, ok, point taken. The Danish smørrebrød is the best. ;)
