Antonio’s in Bangkok

Alright, enough postponement already. It’s time to do Antonio’s some justice. Way back when I was in Bangkok with my hubby, we went about our usual dinner-picking-indecisiveness and walked in and out of almost every Sukhumvit road there is to find a place that would suit my hubby’s and my taste and mood for the night. I almost ran out of patience when we saw this lovely cozy light on the top floor of a building in the back of another building. Then we saw a sign “Antonio’s” with an arrow pointing around the corner. Out of curiosity as much as severe hunger, we both decided to go there.

The place looked cozy and most of their tables were reserved. We were lucky that there was a two seat table outside on the terrace that wasn’t reserved, so we were seated there. We placed our order, but unfortunately since I have lost or misplaced the receipt, I can’t remember what I ordered anymore. I tried to contact them and ask, but no response yet – probably too busy to pay attention to a forgetful foodie like me :D Don’t worry, I have learned my lesson: I now bring a pen and small notepad wherever I go! ;-)

Anyways, I had some sort of mushroom with cheese dish as a starter. It was quite big, I kind of regret having ordered it because it was quite filling. But the yummy factor has wiped that regret completely off my mind. Thanks to Antonio’s (yes, the owner, not the restaurant) persistence, we also ordered a sample dish of his famous ravioli (‘ravioli filled with Porcini mushrooms, topped with a cream of black truffle sauce’ – his signature dish: if you haven’t tried it, you haven’t been to Antonio’s, so he says) which came with a sample of ‘white asparagus wrapped in Parma ham topped with a cream Gorgonzola cheese sauce’. It was just heaven in my mouth! I could seriously have just stopped right there and cherish the taste and not drink or eat anything else for the rest of my life. Well, that’s an overstatement, but at that moment, it was what I thought, for a while anyway. But when you’re in Bangkok, you MUST go and try it out.

After having spoiled my taste buds with the above, we had our main dish – which I don’t remember the name of. It’s definitely fish, if not mistaken it’s Barramundi. And if you think it’s a downhill ride after the heavenly ravioli, you’re wrong, because our dinner that night was all peaks. As you probably already know, I am not much of a fish eater but that night, I was glad I decided to order fish, against all my habits because it was oh-so-fine. Of course both my hubby and I overate that night, but hey it was totally worth it. I’m definitely going back there when we’re in Bangkok next time.
