The Culinary Experience Range in Bangkok

At the end of March, I accompanied my hubby to Bangkok where he had to attend a one week meeting. I must let you know, that my hubby is not so much into traditional food so my culinary experience even when in a foreign country will always include international or western food. Hence, the range of my culinary adventures in Bangkok was actually quite wide, starting from Thai rice salad to French fine dining.

Basically my one week in Bangkok included Thai food whenever I could get it, Italian food (at Antonio’s – read more in a separate post), finger food at an Irish pub (the Dubliner),  Chinese food at the Imperial China restaurant (at the hotel), French food at Les Nymphéas restaurant (at the hotel) as well as pizza of a local pizzeria in one of the malls.

I will write more about Antonio’s, the Imperial China and Les Nymphéas separately. Now, let me concentrate on two special experience. Firstly, after my hubby and I strolled around the King Power duty free shopping mall, we decided to get something to eat. So we went to a nearby mall and walked around, trying to decide which restaurant to try out. Since most of them were local restaurant chains and my hubby wasn’t keen on trying local dishes, we ended up in a small pizzeria. Well, the restaurant wasn’t the only one that was small :D See my hubby’s appalled face showing the teeny tiny pizza served?

Secondly, on the last day of the meeting, my hubby and I joined other participants for lunch at the Park View restaurant. Since it was a buffet lunch, I took the opportunity of trying out some local dishes, such as the one pictured below: Thai rice salad. Other than rice, it consists of bean sprouts (as you can see), finely sliced kaffir lime leaves, finely chopped lemon grass (which I thought was very interesting at first but later on it became a little too overpowering), grated carrots, some chili powder and I think it also had some shrimp powder, and was dressed with sweet soya sauce. My adventurous tongue did appreciate the taste for a while, but even at the small portion, I thought it was a bit too adventurous for me. Too much chili and too much lemon grass for my taste. Didn’t care much for the shrimp powder either. But hey – at least I tried it once! :)
