Flying to Denmark (again)

As my hubby’s daughter was getting married, we set out to fly to Denmark for a 3 week vacation. This time we chose to fly with KLM – which required us to make yet another airline membership. Of course this means that we are probably never going to get enough points to earn ourselves a free upgrade to business class with any of the other airlines we have membership with. :-P But that is a completely different story.

Anyways, honestly if I have any choice, I would not fly with KLM anymore. But of course there are always positive and negative sides of any airlines. To be fair, I will list them here.

Negative side:

  1. The seat doesn’t recline much. Forget trying to sleep on the plane if you’re one of those people who need to be more horizontal to be able to sleep. Fortunately for us, the flight was not too full and we (or rather, I) could stretch ourselves over four seats. The good news is, they are introducing their economy comfort seats sometime in December, which offers up to ten centimetres more legroom and back supports that recline twice as far. This economy comfort zone will cost between €80 and €150 more for a single leg of the journey.
  2. The flight stops twice. The first stop is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which is only a short stop over, while the second stop is in Amsterdam, where we had to transfer to another plane and continue to Denmark. You may think that it is nice to have a long flight broken up in a few parts, but this could actually disrupt your rest, or prolong the flight. We found out that we flew much longer than we would have if we flew with any other airlines. And this was because Amsterdam is apparently more west location wise than Copenhagen. So we sort of flew over Copenhagen to get to Amsterdam, and then we had to change flights to go back to Copenhagen.

Positive side:

  1. I love the food. They have the most creative, non-typical, delicious plane food so far. And the reason for this is because they served Indian food. :D I LOVE Indian food!!! Unfortunately my hubby doesn’t, but I think he seems ok with it. Probably because he didn’t have much choice. :-P
  2. The flight attendants are more friendly, considering that they are from that part of the globe. I remember in the other airline from that part of the globe, which name I should not mention, the flight attendants were way more uptight and non-service minded. On KLM, they would at least offer you a nice smile.
  3. The flight’s in-flight entertainment was great, especially because of the availability of a personal screen. People who don’t sleep can at least kill their time by watching the many choices of classic and newly released movies or TV shows. I took the chance on catching up with the latest, and watched “My Sister’s Keeper” (which was a very touching story by the way) and “The Taking of Pelham 123”.

The verdict? Well, if there are any other airlines available with low price, I would probably not choose KLM anymore. But if there are no other choice, I think I will still survive, but will definitely opt for the economy comfort seats. :D

Oh and one more thing: while stopping in Amsterdam, I spotted that they have three different rubbish bins, dedicated to three different types of garbage. See picture below. I just thought it was quite funny to use PET next to waste and paper, because if people (such as myself) don’t do their research before landing in Schipol, without actually looking at the image of bottles, they could easily mistake it for something else. :-P Apparently PET stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate which is the type of plastic commonly used for beverages.
