Dining Out: La Lucciola in Seminyak
It’s vacation time! We arrived today a little bit delayed; although our airline had previously informed us that the schedule was moved up by 20 minutes, we ended up leaving Jakarta 20 minutes after the original schedule. Talk about irony.
Anyways, we were picked up by the villa transport and arrived at the villa at about 17.00. After taking some time to unpack, we headed out to check out the streets around and maybe grab something to eat.
From our villa, we went out to the left which lead us to Petitenget main road on which we turned right to the direction of the beach. At a left bend, we came across a large parking lot, with a large temple on the right side. Further down near the beach we spotted a security check which gave us the impression that there was probably a restaurant or something. We approached the security guard, and surely enough, it was a restaurant called La Lucciola.
We decided to check the place out so we went in. Since we had no reservation, they directed us to the bar where we could wait until a table has opened up for us. It took about 30 minutes, which we enjoyed by watching the sunset with drinks in our hands.
After being escorted to our table, we had to wait about 30 minutes before we could order, as their kitchen was quite busy. However, we were given the pleasure of enjoying their bread which was really good.
When we could finally order, I opted for the slow braised lamb which was served with polenta. The lamb was really tender, and not to the point where it was mushy. The polenta was also nice although personally I prefer mashed potatoes. The lamb was served with some sauce containing tomatoes as well as mint, which i thought was really suitable for the lamb.
As for the place, the atmosphere was very cozy. It was situated right by the beach so the night breeze was quite nice. Although we had to wait a total one hour to actually eat (since we arrived) the food was definitely worth the wait. The waiters were very attentive and they were knowledgeable about the food. They were also helpful in suggesting whether it was necessary to have any side dishes at all with the food we ordered. They did not take the opportunity to have us order as much as possible for the restaurant’s profit even when it wasn’t necessary; which we really appreciated.
If you are in Bali or plan to come here, you should definitely check this place out. The night we came, it seemed to be quite busy, and in hindsight I now feel that it would have been best to actually reserve a place ahead of time. Here is the address and phone number:
